In case any of you are around, my short is being shown here on Tuesday the 14th. The audience will include Mike Leigh and Nick Broomfield as well as that guy who wrote Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas.

Wow, that's really cool. Will you be in town for the big event? Also, is it possible for anyone to get tickets or is it a closed event? The NFT is 10 minutes from my house, so I guess I could make the effort.

Yeah, im flying over on tuesday morning, courtesy of the college (a miracle of sorts since theyre always skint- have to pay for my own hotel)

Not sure what the deal is with tickets, although i reckon it may not be open to the public as its a film schools of europe type event. I'll try and find out for sure.

There's a sereis of shorts and lectures though and it all sounds pretty good. Filmmakers from lots of other european film schools will be there too so i'm hopeful i'll get to meet some interesting people. This is also the first time any of my stuff will be shown outside of Ireland.

or Terry Gilliam(screenplay)???

How did it go? Really well I thought, less sure about the Regent Palace however.

There were tons of UK colleges there, examples, Edinburgh College of Art, Leeds Met, London Met, London Film School, Luton, Kent, Napier...etc

I was the only Irish bloke who showed. Our college had 5 things showing (2 animations) all of which went down really well. I was surprised to find so many people shooting video in England I have to say.

The screening of my film was hosted by Mike Leigh and afterwards myself and London Met fellas had to go up to the stage, grab the mic and answer questions and criticism from the audience and Mike. I just did my best to be honest and a few people came up afterwards and said they enjoyed what I had to say.

Afterwards at the bar, I met Mr. Leigh again and he was talking to a guy from London Met, telling him everything he did wrong in his movie and saying it was derivative. Then he asked me what I thought!

He then starts using my film as a counterpoint to this poor guys, showing what I apparently did right and what he didnt. Next a random guy from the audience hijacks the conversation to tell me that I'd over complicated the premise of my story and that I'd essentially messed up...

Suddenly Mike Leigh starts telling this guy he doesnt know what hes talking about. Im just standing there in some beautiful daze. Mike tells me he'd really like to see my short again and wishes me the best...

If you dont believe me, at least know that I'm having trouble believing it myself.

That's absolutely FANTASTIC! Brilliant stuff!!!!!!!

It seems it could not have gone any better - you must be on such an incredible high after that. Hope things continue so posititively for you!
